She spent the entire day waiting for the phone to ring.
My mother barely left the living room that afternoon, fearful she'd miss the call.
She kept telling us to turn down the television, so nothing drowned out the sound. My father and brother had just wrapped up a week-long road trip overseas.

They were due back to that morning. They were late. My mother was desperate to find out what happened.
When the phone finally rang, on the other end wasn't Dad's.

This voice was nervous; it hesitated and stuttered. It then mumbled two sentences that brought that chapter of our lives to a swift and sudden end: ‘Your husband and your son have been involved in a car crash. One of them is dead and we don't know which one.'
My father and brother were travelling together across .

It was supposed to be a rich bonding experience, a return to my father's roots. But somewhere along the six-hour stretch of bumpy highway between the cities of Enugu and Lagos, the man driving my father and 11-year-old brother, Chiwetel, swerved into the opposite lane to overtake traffic.
Zain Asher's (pictured) new memoir details how after a tragedy her mother's strict regime pushed her and her oscar-nominated brother Chiwetel Ejiofor towards success
Within seconds, their car was crushed by a speeding tractor trailer.

Everyone was killed instantly, apart from one person in the back seat. I was five, my eldest brother Obinze was 14 and my mother was four months pregnant.
She hung up the phone in stunned silence. Every expression shrouded in disbelief, every movement weighed down by numbness.
She prayed there'd been a mistake.

‘God, if you grant me just one miracle for the rest of my life, let it please come tonight,' she whispered. She scurried upstairs, took her passport out of her bottom dresser drawer, threw some clothes into a suitcase and called a cab.
RELATED ARTICLES

Share

By dawn she was on a six-hour flight to Nigeria. Her prayer was not answered. She would soon learn that my father, Arinze Ejiofor, just months away from becoming a fully-fledged doctor, was dead.
Bystanders initially feared the worst for Chiwetel, too.

His lifeless body had been flung into the back of a truck alongside my dad's.
It was only when the driver arrived at the morgue and began unloading the bodies that he realised my brother was still breathing.
Chiwetel would spend several weeks in hospital before he was well enough to return to England.

It would take many more months for his massive head wound and badly broken right arm to fully heal.
There is tragedy in my story. But my story is not a tragedy. It is a story of grit, grace, and perhaps above all, a story of extraordinary triumph that I want to share with the world.
Zain pictured with her mother and brother Chiwetel.

When he was 11 Chiwetel was flung from a car in Nigeria along with his father, who was killed instantly. It wasn't until at the morgue that people noticed he was still breathing
To be fair, it is my mother's story more than mine.
Up against soul-crushing challenges I can barely imagine, Obiajulu Justina Ejiofor raised four children who shattered every expectation.
Her unique parenting style, her life-changing sacrifices, and her unrelenting discipline are the reasons Chiwetel is today an Oscarnominated actor; they are the reason I am a CNN anchor with degrees from Oxford and Columbia; my sister, a doctor; and my eldest brother, a successful entrepreneur.
People usually underestimate my mother.

By all appearances, she is an ordinary woman, small in stature and quiet. She speaks slowly, with the singsongy cadence of the rural African village where she grew up.
She is also someone who fought with every fibre of her being for her family.
She carried us through a staggering tragedy, shielded us from the crime in our neighbourhood, and devoted every spare penny to our education.
She barely finished school as Nigeria struggled through civil war and famine, but taught herself Shakespeare, French and the piano — just so she could teach us.

She plastered clippings of Black success stories over our walls to remind us of what we could achieve.
We had to read one book a week to discuss at our family book club And, after ten-hour shifts each day, she hosted late-night study sessions so we'd always be one step ahead in school.
My mother would tell you she did nothing special.

In a way, I suppose, she's right. She simply raised us the way she had been raised, the way her parents had been raised before her, and theirs before them.
In the village where she grew up, mothers and fathers sometimes go to extreme lengths — doing things you may find wacky, weird or even a bit frightening — to elevate the lives of their children.
But in those days after the accident, as she contemplated her new life as a single mother, she was painfully aware that her family's fate was teetering on the brink.
My brothers started veering down the wrong path almost immediately after my father died, desperate for any distractions they could find.
But my mother believed discipline, tough love and a healthy dose of inspiration would help them see past the empty chair at the dinner table.

‘We've been through a lot this year,' she told us. ‘We've suffered, yes, but that will not stop us.'
She ticked through a list of changes to keep us focused — eager to foster a sense of routine. Strict curfews for the boys, a long list of chores, regular family time to talk about schoolwork.
From that day forth, we were ordered to read one book a week and discuss our progress at the dinner table.

She did whatever she could to keep up the regime — even after she gave birth to my little sister, Kandi, that spring.
Zain pictured with her mother.

She says her mother believed discipline, tough love and a healthy dose of inspiration would help the family see past the empty chair at the dinner table
Every night — despite sleepless nights with the baby and long hours at work, running a chemist in Brixton — she'd come home, prepare dinner, put Kandi to bed and guide the boys through the family book club.
After I turned seven, she requested my school syllabus to teach me my subjects months before they were presented in class so that by the time something new came up in school, I would have already mastered it.

She motivated us in other ways, too.
One day I came home from school to find my bedroom mirror missing and newspaper clippings crudely plastered to the walls. My mother had cut out six articles, each featuring someone with a similar background to us, who had achieved something extraordinary, and stuck them up.
I remember first learning about the Nigerian playwright and novelist Wole Soyinka's life story this way, and studying Paul Boateng, one of the few prominent Black British politicians at the time.

She drilled it into us that the people in the articles were just like us and, if we worked hard, we could have what they had.
Their stories may have been inspiring, but as a girl on the verge of becoming a teenager, I desperately wanted my mirror back.
When I confronted my mother about it, she said simply: ‘Less focus on how you look, more focus on what you can become.'
I never saw that mirror again. Then, when I was 13, my mother's plans grew even more ambitious. She'd heard all about Oxford University and its prestigious stature while growing up in colonial Nigeria, and became convinced that a degree from such a place could change my life for ever.
20p a minute to chat to pals on our coin-operated grey payphone On paper, Oxford was an impossible dream.

The university required years of proven academic success, was a magnet for people of privilege, and featured a student body that was only two per cent Black. All of that should have been a deterrent. It wasn't.
On a cold Sunday morning in February, four years before I could even apply, my mother forced me into the car for the first of many trips together to wander Oxford's hallowed streets.
We didn't know anyone at the university and, as a kid, I obviously knew very little about its reputation. We hadn't even signed up for a tour.

My mother just wanted me to be there — to see and feel the institution that had educated so many of the world's decision makers. She wanted to show me what was possible. She wanted it to seem real, to seem reachable — for both of us.
Those trips soon became a mother- daughter tradition. Whenever she felt I was drifting or rebelling as I entered my teenage years, she wouldn't yell or ground me.

Instead, she'd take me back to visit Oxford, to show me something better to aspire to.
By the time I was 18, we had been there half a dozen times. Still, my teachers were not optimistic about my chances of getting in. My grades were good, but not great.
And so, my mother came up with a plan.
She quickly realised there was one obvious distraction that loomed above all others and represented a clear and present danger to my meandering teenage attention span: TV. Just under two years before I would even start university, I was barred from watching any television whatsoever until I had an actual Oxford acceptance letter in hand.
I thought she was joking at first.

Who had ever heard of such a thing — no TV? My little sister and I were obsessed with EastEnders and the latest scandals in Byker Grove.
Zain and Chiwetel pictured as children. When their mother saw Chiwetel perform in a play she was astonished at the audience's reaction to him and bought her first Shakespeare play
But, as always, my mother meant business.

As far as she was concerned, television was stealing from my future.
She had no way of enforcing her new rule round the clock. While she was at work, Kandi and I would spend hours watching MTV music videos or The Simpsons reruns without her knowing.
It didn't take long for her to catch us in the act.
I remember her walking in on me while I was engrossed in a particularly intense episode of Quantum Leap one evening.
‘This won't be happening again,' she said somewhat ominously, before ordering me to my room.
The next day after school, my sister and I assumed our normal positions in front of the TV.

I pressed the large red button on the remote control. Nothing happened. I pressed it again. Nothing. I peeked around to the back of the television, and to my horror, discovered the cause of the problem. The power cord was lying there in two pieces. My mother, desperate to keep us on the right track, had literally taken a pair of scissors and cut the cable in half.

I gasped. This woman has snapped, I thought.
I knew she was capable of a lot, but I never anticipated she'd intentionally destroy a major electronic appliance simply to boost my grades. I didn't realise she was operating under a different code, the code of her Nigerian village, in which long-term success — even survival — often required serious short-term pain.
Without television, the phone quickly became my new best friend.

I spent long hours chatting with friends on our landline, until she found a solution for that, too.
I came home one day to find the home phone replaced by a big, grey box, with a slot for coins on one side. It was an actual payphone.

Starting that day, if I wanted to talk to my friends, or anyone, it would cost me 20 pence a minute.
I missed the TV and the phone, of course, but I couldn't ignore my dramatic improvement at school. My grades began to soar.
Within a few months, I was getting top marks in most of my practice exams.
One day, my French teacher tracked down my mother in the car park to ask about my sudden surge.

When my mother explained that it was simply about eliminating distractions, my teacher asked for advice about what to do with her own children.
Eventually, my academic record was so strong that my school had no excuse but to support my Oxford application.
We took trips to Oxford to show me what I could aspire to My mother's steely discipline pushed Chiwetel to fulfil his potential, too.

He stumbled upon Shakespeare in an English class at school, just after he turned 13. There was something about the complexities of the playwright's characters that spoke to his soul.
He soon began consuming as many plays as he could, learning most by heart and even scribbling the Bard's most famous lines all over his bedroom walls.
My mother, who knew nothing about Shakespeare, thought the lines were gibberish.

She was furious.
Her attitude changed when she first saw Chiwetel perform in a school play later that year. It was Shakespeare's Measure For Measure. While she had a hard time following the complicated dialogue, she was stunned by the applause for her son at the curtain call.
She surveyed the crowd, astonished to see so many strangers showering her son with so much acclaim.
In a matter of days, my mother had purchased her first Shakespeare play.

She moved through Measure For Measure slowly, by necessity and by design as she tried to relive her son's captivating performance.
Of all the things she thought she'd be doing as a Nigerian immigrant in South London, studying Shakespeare was not one of them.
But she knew that acting had given Chiwetel new-found hope after the accident and she took it upon herself to nurture it in any way she could.

She soon began practising lines with him and finding her own small ways to push him to be better.
Nearly 25 years later, Chiwetel would become the first African actor nominated for an Oscar for the best actor in a leading role for the film 12 Years A Slave.
It was a defining moment for him, for my family and for millions of Nigerians who had never seen one of their own honoured on the entertainment industry's biggest stage.
Obiajulu Ejiofor mother of Zain Asher and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Zaine says her mother knew she was capable of a lot but was surprised that she took away all technology to encourage it
Chiwetel was already on his way to the big screen when I finally got my acceptance letter from Oxford.
I remember my whole family coming home for Christmas that year to celebrate.

Each of us in some small way, had surpassed expectations. My eldest brother Obinze had started his own highend fashion distribution company operating in London, Paris, and Milan. Chiwetel had already got his big break with a role in Steven Spielberg's Amistad and Kandi was eyeing medical school.
We'd all overcome incredible odds, but ultimately, my mother might have accomplished the most.

Today, the village girl who studied long division in the dirt as a civil war raged, is the founder of Brightland school in Enugu, a place that gives children the sort of education she was robbed of when she was young.
The school boasts an athletics field, computer access for each child, and a modern science lab under construction. Such amenities can be truly transformative in Nigeria.

I know that my dad would be proud — not just of the school, but of the way my mother fought for us all those years ago when she had every reason to give up.
Her family book clubs, her trips to Oxford and the newspaper clippings she plastered across our walls were constant reminders that we were not bound by the pain of our loss or the low expectations of the world around us.

Instead, they were proof she expected us to thrive at all costs — and so we did.
Adapted from Where The Children Take Us by Zain E.
The Boston Bruins begin a stretch of three games in four nights to conclude the regular season when they host the Eastern Conference-leading Florida Panthers on Tuesday.

Boston (49-25-5, 103 points) returns home for the next two games after sweeping a weekend back-to-back, including Sunday's 5-3 win in Montreal.

Erik Haula and Patrice Bergeron each scored twice, while Jeremy Swayman bounced back from Thursday's loss in Pittsburgh by turning aside 23 shots to sweep the season series with the Habs.

"Every time we play Montreal, we want to put our best foot forward," Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said.

"I'm sure they feel the same way, especially at home, and especially on (an emotional tribute night to Guy Lafleur)."

The win gave the Bruins -- who have won four of their last five games -- a three-point lead over Washington for the No. 1 wild card position.

"We are just trying to fine tune our game," Haula said of the final stretch against Florida, Buffalo and Toronto.
"But our team is confident and ready for the big dance."

Haula's first goal came on a penalty shot attempt that began with him fanning on the puck as he took his first strides.

"Honestly, I was so flustered, I didn't know what was going on," Haula said.

"It was so loud, I didn't know if the refs blew (the play dead) or not. I just grabbed the puck and thought, `All right, I guess I'll take it down.' Thank God I scored."

Charlie McAvoy's late second-period tally stood as the winner, as the Habs scored a pair in the third to pull within one.

"We had the upper hand early, but there was no quit in their game. Give them credit, they battled back," Cassidy said.

.".. We've been pretty good at (closing) those types of games in the past."

Florida (57-16-6, 120 points) has already clinched the top spot in the conference for the first time ever, but its franchise-record 13-game win streak was snapped in Sunday's 8-4 loss to Tampa Bay.

Sam Reinhart scored twice while goaltender Spencer Knight allowed five of the eight goals on 17 shots as his five-game win streak was snapped.

"You can only go to the well so many times and (on Sunday) it ran out," Panthers interim head coach Andrew Brunette said.

"There's some things that we've got to shore up, but I love the way our group competes. Even on a night where you can take it off, we didn't take the night off."

Reinhart, who leads the Panthers with 15 power play goals, followed Aleksander Barkov, Anthony Duclair and Jonathan Huberdeau to the 30-goal mark.

Brandon Montour and Mason Marchment also scored against Tampa.
Montour has goals in back-to-back games after Saturday's overtime winner against Toronto.

"I thought we did a lot of good things and kind of self-inflicted in a few different areas," Brunette said. "Hey, it happens. I thought our 5-on-5 play was really (good). The tail end of some power plays got us in a little bit of trouble."

The Panthers, who remain four points ahead of Colorado in the Presidents' Trophy race, will look to bounce back from their first loss since March 27 in Toronto.

Florida and Boston haven't met since Oct.

27 and 30 when the Panthers took a 4-1 win and 3-2 shootout loss, respectively.

"I don't think anyone's ever happy with losing, especially in this locker room," Marchment said. "I think, for us, just put (Sunday) behind us and move on to the next."

--Field Level Media

If you cherished this write-up and you would like to get more facts with regards to [https://xn--80aaalddcfhwl3bhizg.xn--p1ai/ сколько стоит стрейч пленка] kindly visit our webpage.

CNET was given the rare opportunity to film inside the more than 2-mile long tunnel ahead of the new laser's launch. Click the video above to learn more.

The first LCLS, in operation since 2009, creates a beam capable of 120 light pulses per second. The LCLS-II will be capable of up to 1 million pulses per second, and a beam 10,000 times brighter than its predecessor.

In the underground tunnel at the LCLS.

Andy Altman/CNET

"I think it's absolutely fair to say that the LCLS-II will usher in a new era of science," says Dr. James Cryan, a staff scientist at SLAC. He says the laser will make previously impossible experiments possible.

You can think of the LCLS as being like a microscope with atomic resolution. At its core it is a particle accelerator, a device that speeds up charged particles and channels them into a beam. That beam is then run through a series of alternating magnets (a device called an undulator) to produce X-rays. Scientists can use those X-rays to create what they call molecular movies. These are snapshots of atoms and molecules in motion, captured within a few quadrillionths of a second, and strung together like a film.

Looking down Undulator Hall, a 100-meter stretch of alternating magnets that convert electron beams into X-rays.

Andy Altman/CNET

Scientists across nearly every scientific field have come from all over the world to run their experiments with the LCLS. Among other things, their molecular movies have shown chemical reactions as they happened, demonstrated the behavior of atoms inside stars, and produced live snapshots detailing the process of photosynthesis.

The LCLS-II and its higher pulse rate become a game changer for these molecular movies, according to Andrew Burrill, SLAC associate lab director.

"If you think about a strobe light that goes off 120 times, you see one image. If it goes off a million times in a second, you get a much different image. So you can create a much better movie," he says.

Though both lasers accelerate electrons to nearly the speed of light, they'll each do it differently. The LCLS's accelerator pushes the electrons down a copper pipe that operates at room temperature, designed to be activated only in short bursts. But the LCLS-II is designed to run continuously, which means it generates massive amounts of heat. A copper cavity would absorb too much of that heat. That's why engineers turned to a new superconducting accelerator, composed of dozens of 40-foot-long devices called cryomodules designed to run at two degrees above absolute zero (-456 degrees Fahrenheit). They're kept at operating temperature by a massive cryogenics plant above ground.

A series of superconducting cryomodules that operate at -456 Fahrenheit accelerate electrons to nearly the speed of light.

Andy Altman/CNET

Cryan says the LCLS-II will allow SLAC scientists answer questions they've been trying to solve for years. "How does energy transfer happen inside molecular systems? How does charge transfer happen? Once we understand some of these principles, we can start to apply them to understand how we can do artificial photosynthesis, how can we build better solar cells."

Scientists at SLAC hope to produce their first electron beam with the LCLS-II in January, followed by their first X-ray in the summer, which they'll refer to as their first "big light" event.

If you have any questions pertaining to wherever and how to use [https://xn--80aaalddcfhwl3bhizg.xn--p1ai/ стрейч пленка купить в спб], you can call us at our internet site.

Having cost a total fee north of £140million, you might expect Alex Lacazette and to muster double figures between them for Premier League goals.
Yet, with the campaign in its final stretch, one of them has scored four times, two of those from the penalty spot, and the other has five, although none since the turn of the year. A feeble return for two players deployed up front in attacking teams at the right end of the table.
Lukaku, widely hailed as the missing piece in 's jigsaw, started in some style before spluttering to a halt after injury, Covid and a disagreement with Thomas Tuchel after he pined for a return to Inter Milan in an interview in the Italian media.

Lacazette was entrusted by to take the captain's armband, lead the line and guide his young team when was ostracised on disciplinary grounds and sold in January. Neither has been able to seize the opportunity and both are guilty of a catalogue of missed chances.
Romelu Lukaku (left) and Alexandre Lacazette (right) are struggling badly in front of goal
RELATED ARTICLES

Share
3.7k shares

As Chelsea and Arsenal prepare to meet at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, the two managers were massaging egos and cajoling their misfiring strikers in the hope they might still contribute something in this vital stage of the season.
'You can qualify for the Champions League in different ways,' said Arteta. 'You can win every game 1-0 and qualify or you can score 12 goals and not qualify.
'Our strikers need to score goals. Our attacking players need to create. We need clean sheets. It's a combination of everything.
'It's not just a single player that needs to do a job to get the result we want.'
Arsenal appear to be cracking under the pressure of the race for fourth. They have lost their last three and four of their last five, surrendering the advantage they held and slipping to sixth, with rivals Manchester United visiting the Emirates on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta is attempting to cajole the Frenchman to get production at such a crucial time
It is a vital period for Arteta, who has his two strikers Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah out of contract in June and both talking publicly about futures elsewhere.
Lacazette, back in contention after Covid, fuelled the notion of a summer return to Lyonwith French broadcaster Canal Plus this week, the 30-year-old saying he misses playing in the Champions League.
Maybe he has read the signals and realises his time is up in north London, even though Arteta maintains they will talk contracts at the end of the season.
His last goal from open play came in December and for all his good hold-up play and leadership qualities, he has acquired the nickname Lack-a-goals.
Lukaku's future at Chelsea is by no means clear either. But eight months on from his club record £97.5million transfer, Tuchel insists he will not give up on the Belgian forward.
'For us it is clear, we can play with Romelu and be very strong with Romelu and we proved it,' said the Chelsea boss. 'We will prove it if he is involved and keeps involved mentally. He can grow from it and come back stronger.
Tuchel is unwilling to bow to pressure on Lukaku and is confident he can regain top form
'It is for sure disappointing for him and not what we expected, but it is not finished.
'We will push him as far as we can and as long as the player stays involved in the mentality that is needed to bring a team forward he can still be crucial.'
Lukaku is not the same force as when Chelsea last faced Arsenal. Since scoring against Brighton in December, his goals have been against Chesterfield, Al-Hilal, Luton, Palmeiras and Middlesbrough.
'He is trying everything,' said Tuchel. 'He had a very, very promising start. There was turbulence around from there.
'He will have our support to reach this level again. It's in him. It's in us. He is still at the right place but there are things to improve from all of us. We will not give up.'
Chelsea and Arsenal will meet again on tours to the United States. They will play for the Florida Cup in Orlando on July 23. Chelsea will only travel if the club is sold and they are not subject to sanctions.
Lukaku has found goals hard to come by (pictured: scoring against Palmeiras back in February)
RELATED ARTICLES

Share
3.7k shares

Should you loved this short article and you wish to receive details regarding [https://xn----itbmnjagdikg0d.xn--p1ai/ стрейч пленка] i implore you to visit the web-site.

There are heaps of great science fiction movies on Netflix. In no particular order, we've decided to make a list. Here goes...
Our favourite science fiction movies on Netflix

Warner Bros.

Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

Blade Runner 2049 really has no right being good. A sequel to maybe the most loved and critically revered sci-fi movie of all time, it's wild that somehow Denis Villeneuve's somehow manages to live up to that legacy, while carving one of its own. A spectacular movie.

Netflix

The Adam Project (2022)

The Adam Project isn't a perfect movie, but it is perfect for those seeking out an easy watch for a family movie night. Ryan Reynolds does his Ryan Reynolds thing as a time-traveling pilot working with his 12-year-old self on a mission to save the future.

Look, it's a crowd pleaser!

Netflix

Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Childhood

Apollo 11 1/2 is loosely based on director Richard Linklater's childhood. An animated tale set around the time of the Apollo moon landing it stars Glen Powell, Jack Black, Zachary Levi and Josh Wiggins and features a beautiful animated aesthetic.

It's a beautifully made movie you can't afford to miss.

Video screenshot by Amanda Kooser/CNET

Don't Look Up (2021)

Is this sci-fi? I think it's sci-fi.

It's sci-fi. End of discussion.

Don't Look Up is far from a perfect movie. It reeks of Hollywood faux-activism and it's too long and way too on the nose. But it still feels important and also... quite funny?

I think regardless of its flaws, Don't Look Up is a movie that has had a net positive on the world and it's worth watching.

New Line

Blade

Blade is iconic. It hardly reviewed well when it first came out in 1998, but this vampire superhero flick has become almost prototypical of where we're at right now, with Marvel movies dominating the spotlight.

This one is slick. Well worth a gander.

Paramount Pictures

War of the Worlds

This remake/reinterpretation of War of the World is directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Tom Cruise in the lead role. It's sort of underrated in my humble opinion! It features some really cutting edge, well integrated CGI and is just furiously paced. I loved it.

Sony Pictures

Gattaca (1997)

Gattaca is a true science fiction movie, in that it wrestles with real scientific ideas and their potential impact on the human race. It's a film about eugenics, essentially, but also poses big questions about predestination, and how we can push back on determinism. Very cool, very interesting. A must watch.

Netflix

Synchronic (2019)

At CNET, we love Synchronic so much we wrote . We called it the most underrated sci-fi flick on Netflix, and we stand by it.

It's annoying, inconsistent and often makes zero sense, but it's also really great.

Warner Bros. Pictures

Inception (2010)

Look, I'm gonna level with you: I kinda hate Inception. I think it's a cold, pretentious movie for people trying really hard to pretend they're smart.

But most people love it, so I put it on the list. Each to their own. Please enjoy this movie!

Read more:

Looper (2012)

Looper is the movie that helped Rian Johnson get the Star Wars gig, which led to my personal favorite Star Wars movie ever, The Last Jedi.

But beyond that, Looper is just fantastic science fiction. It's bold with its time travel choices and is just an incredibly stylish movie. Watch it.

Tristar

Starship Troopers (1997)

I love this movie.

A frequently misunderstood parody of jingoism, Starship Troopers has aged tremendously. On a surface level it's also a really fun, easy watch. Get stuck in.

Netflix

The Platform (2019)

The Platform is a Spanish sci-fi horror flick with a gruesome high concept. Prisoners in a correctional facility are fed in a very unique way: Folks at the top floor get fed a ludicrous amount of food, folks below get their leftovers. Chaos ensues.

It's not perfect, but still well worth watching.

Blade Runner: The Final Cut (1982)

Is there a more critically revered science fiction movie than Blade Runner? If there is, I can't think of it. Maybe the original Alien or The Thing?

Either way, neither of them is currently on Netflix, so Blade Runner is probably the must watch sci-fi movie on the service.

Netflix

Okja (2017)

Is Okja science fiction? Look it's a stretch, but it's a good movie. Just watch it anyway.

Netflix

I Am Mother (2019)

An Australian-made sci-fi thriller starring Hilary Swank and Rose Byrne, I Am Mother tells the post-apocalyptic tale of Daughter, a character raised by Mother, a robot tasked with helping repopulate the Earth. Very tense, very strange, very good.

Netflix

The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021)

The Mitchells vs. The Machines is one of the smartest, most accessible kids movies of the last few years. It's the sort of movie kids and parents can watch together and both have a blast.

I should know, my kids have made me watch this... eight times so far? Sweet.

Netflix

The Colony (2021)

I just watched The Colony recently. It's surprisingly good!

It follows a very familiar trope: Rich people returning to Earth years after abandoning it, to find it overrun by new, unknown threats. The Colony subverts some of these cliches, however, and has some surprisingly powerful things to say about the ways in which we dehumanize one another. Well worth giving a chance.

Related stories

If you loved this article and you would like to get more info regarding [https://xn----itbmnjagdikg0d.xn--p1ai/ черный стрейч пленка спб] i implore you to visit our own web-site.

Porter went viral after asking his followers to post 'insane' tales of 'Ellen being mean' in a charitable effort for Los Angeles Food Bank.
The tweet inspired hundreds of responses, snowballing into more bad publicity for the star as employees of her show complained about poor speaking with current and former employees for the show who said that the program was plagued by a toxic work environment rife with bullying, sexual misconduct and racist remarks.
Warner Bros.'s parent company WarnerMedia subsequently launched an internal probe of the show, saying that findings indicated 'some flaws in the show's daily management' and 'deficiencies related to the show's day-to-day management.'
In August of 2020, Warner Bros. announced that executive producers Ed Glavin and Kevin Leman and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman had 'parted ways' with the show prior to its 18th season.
When DeGeneres returned to the air in September of 2020, she apologized over the scandal over things 'that never should have happened.'
DeGeneres announced she was ending her show in May of 2021, telling fans that she intuitively felt it was time to wrap things up in its 19th season
The long-running talk show first hit the air in 2003
'I know that I'm in a position of privilege and power,' she said, 'and I realize that with that comes responsibility, and I take responsibility for what happens at my show.
'We have had a lot of conversations over the last few weeks about the show, our workplace, and what we want for the future.

Every May, my husband Chris and I visit the Mumbles in South West Wales to remember my sister, Stephanie. It's where she died, aged 30, and her ashes are scattered around an oak tree we planted nearby.
This beautiful stretch of coast is where I feel closest to her. Not in Coventry where we grew up nor in where I live, but in the place she made her home and loved the most.
We meet up with her best friend, Manessa, and retell our favourite Steff stories. We play on the 2p machines in the seafront arcade and eat ice cream at Verdi's, just like when she was alive.
We laugh, we cry and we remember her. Not sick in a hospital bed, but healthy and happy.
I sat frozen on the couch for the next five hours, reliving every moment. Her words conjured up her face as clear as a photograph. I could almost reach out and hug her. She was back. It was ghostly but tender
We have missed the past two visits because of the pandemic and illness, and it's left me feeling a little adrift from her. But when I was booking our trip this year, something caught my eye in my email inbox.
I'd searched ‘The Mumbles' to find out where we stayed last time, and an email popped up: ‘WhatsApp chat with Stephanie,' it said.
Dumbstruck, I clicked on it, and suddenly sprawling out in front of me was every hilarious and heartbreaking message we had sent each other in the final two-and-a-half years of her life.
For the first time in eight years, I could hear my sister's voice again, calling me by a nickname no one else ever uses, and never will again — ‘sib sab', a silly made-up term that had migrated from sibling. It was as if I had gone back in time.
I sat frozen on the couch for the next five hours, reliving every moment. Her words conjured up her face as clear as a photograph. I could almost reach out and hug her. She was back. It was ghostly but tender.
The messages were in an email I'd sent to myself, though I barely remember doing it. I have only a vague recollection of buying a new phone a few months after she died and trying to work out how to save the conversation. In a daze of grief, I must have copied and pasted the texts into an email before sending it to my own account.
With Mum working full-time, Steff — three years my senior — had been forced to grow up fast to help look after me. At times it felt like it was the two of us against the world. They are both pictured above with mother Julie on graduation day
But this was first time I'd stumbled across it — the thread contained the key words ‘The Mumbles' — and it was as though the messages were there waiting for me for when I was desperate to feel close to her again.
Steff died on May 5, 2014, after a gruelling three-year battle with skin cancer. Less than a year later, on April 22, 2015, my mum Julie passed away, aged 58, from ovarian cancer. In the space of 12 months, I lost the two most important people in my life. Dad had moved away when we were little. So it had been just the three of us.
With Mum working full-time, Steff — three years my senior — had been forced to grow up fast to help look after me. At times it felt like it was the two of us against the world.
On the surface, we couldn't have been more different. She was a redhead, I am blonde. She was shy and a bit of a tomboy, I like sparkly clothes and being in the limelight. She was a physiotherapist and spent her free time hanging out on a farm, I was a journalist living in Central London. Yet even after leaving home to go to university, we remained close.
And now, eight years after her death, it can feel as though I dreamt it all. Were we really as tight as I recall? Or am I only remembering the good because she has gone?
At last, I have more than 1,000 pages — 367,330 words! — of irrefutable proof.
The messages begin in late December 2012. I was 25, living in London after joining the Daily Mail a few months earlier. Steff was 29, and working as a physiotherapist in Wales. We had spent Christmas together in Coventry with Mum and the family.
She was my favourite person in the world. And thanks to these messages, I finally know for sure that we really did make the most of every second we had together
She wrote that she had just watched The Sound Of Music — my favourite film.
‘Thought of you. Lol [laugh out loud],' she said.
‘Haha, Mum text the same,' I replied. ‘Best film ever. Fact.'
It's all light-hearted chatter. But on January 15, 2013, the tone changes.
‘Hey sib sab. Just waiting for my appointment. Thought I'd say hi,' Steff says.
I respond a minute later with: ‘Hey sibby — call me after?'
Then there is nothing for three days — and I wince at the memory of why. About an hour after I sent my message, I received a call from Mum while at work. In a strangled voice, she told me the cancer had spread to Steff's lungs.
My sister had been diagnosed with melanoma in 2011 after finding a suspicious scab on her back. Considering she was a redhead who spent most of our holidays abroad sitting in the shade, it was a complete shock. But the doctors had caught it early and we were told there was a good chance that would be the end of it.
Then, later the following year, days after returning from what would be our final holiday together in America, a routine check revealed the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes.
Now it had spread again, it was stage four and considered terminal. They could try to slow it down, but I knew in that moment I'd lose her.
I got straight on a train to South West Wales, where she lived with her partner, Hywel, and a menagerie of pets.
As we stood outside the hospital after a brutally frank appointment with her oncologist the next day, I tried to walk away to hide my tears. Steff held my shoulders and looked me straight in the face as she said: ‘I will be OK, sib. I promise.'
That moment perfectly sums up my big sister. Just minutes after being handed a death sentence, she was still trying to look after me.
As I scrolled through the messages, I was struck by how young I sound. I was just 24 when Steff was first diagnosed. Now 35, it's hard to fathom that I'm five years older than she was when she died.
She was always the responsible one. Even when she was ill, there are countless messages asking how I was sleeping, if I was OK — she even put money in my bank account to help cover the many train journeys to visit her and Mum.
Now I'm all grown up. I'm married and an editor at a national newspaper, and she isn't here to see it. In fact, I relate to Steff in our messages more now than the younger version of myself — as though I've taken on some of her personality traits.
I'm calmer and more organised — simply older, perhaps. I'd forgotten that she was an obsessive cleaner, list-maker and a bit of a back-seat driver, too.
She and Hywel married on March 1, 2014, two months before she died. I was her maid of honour and did my best to help her organise the day while she was in hospital.
But it's only now that I've planned my own wedding — I met Chris after Mum and Steff died — that I truly understand how hard that must have been.
‘Weddings are stressful the weeks before. I get tired and crabby,' she wrote. Tell me about it!
At my wedding last September, my cousin carried an extra bridesmaid bouquet in her honour. I had photos of Mum and Steff in my flowers, and wore a ring and necklace belonging to them so I would feel their presence.
RELATED ARTICLES

Share

But it is these silly WhatsApp messages that have bought them closer to me than anything else. It's the sheer ordinariness of them that makes them so special.
There is much criticism around how much time we spend texting or communicating via superficial social media websites these days. But in a previous age, all this would have been forgotten.
Yes, there were letters. But rather than carefully thought-out prose, these WhatsApp chats capture the unvarnished truth of our relationship. This was real life.
Amid some grim chat about scans, tumours and medication, we just talked about ordinary day-to-day stuff — work, what we were watching on TV — and sent silly cat videos to cheer each other up.
In fact, we mostly just chatted about food. I couldn't help but laugh as I read the detailed texts we'd sent listing everything we had eaten each day.
‘I've had a carrot with hummus. Two kiwis. An apple. A pear and an orange. Two pieces of toast and bran flakes. A biscuit and a bag of crisps. Chicken wings and veg for tea,' was a real classic.
We also talked a lot about Mum. She'd been diagnosed with ovarian cancer in late 2011 and, after a period of remission, her health was also starting to deteriorate.
But even with everything Steff was going through, she was still an incredible support to Mum and me — and there are many messages asking for updates, gently explaining medical terms and instructing me not to panic.
I desperately miss having — and being — a sister. It's impossible to recreate that relationship. But now, the memory of what it was like has come alive.
Steff wasn't one for soppy messages and there are none of the profound or poetic declarations you might expect to hear in fiction. But as the months roll on, I notice that we start saying, ‘I love you' or, ‘I miss you' at the end of almost every exchange. We knew we were running out of time. I had signed up to run the London Marathon in April 2014 to raise money for a cancer centre called Maggie's, whose support was a lifeline for us all.
Steff would send me messages during every training run.
‘Run, run. Just keep running. Just keep running,' she'd write.
After I made 20 miles, she said: ‘Wow. You really can do it sib. Very proud of you today x.'
Then, the week before the race, Steff went into hospital for what would be the final time and we were called in to say our goodbyes.
But she rallied, and everyone encouraged me to return to London to run. Still, Steff grabbed my hand and made me promise I wouldn't be pressured into doing it if I didn't want to.
I hadn't slept in days but, after raising more than £7,000 and feeling otherwise utterly helpless, this was something I could do.
The night before, she wrote: ‘Love you. I'll be with you xx.'
So I ran with ‘For Sib Sab' on the back of my shirt, praying that she wouldn't die before I got back to her bedside.
She didn't and, after a quick shower, my friends bundled me into a car to drive me back to Wales that night, so I could hang my medal on the TV in front of her and show off my battered feet.
And in typical Steff fashion, her final message to me two weeks later on April 27, eight days before she died, asked: ‘Are you OK?'
I've always felt guilty that I didn't do enough when Mum and Steff were ill. And in that respect, these messages are a gift.
‘Do you want me to come and visit this weekend or next?' I asked again and again, as I split my time between her and Mum as much as I could.
I'd forgotten about the fruit baskets, chocolate hampers and emergency new clothes I'd sent her when the steroid treatment meant nothing fitted and she threatened to burn her wardrobe to the ground.
When I couldn't be there in person, I was glued to my phone in case she messaged. No matter the time of day, I always responded within minutes.
In the weeks before she died, Mum, Dad, Hywel and I took it in turns to sleep at the hospital so she was never alone.
And it was me who was with her when she took her last breath.
No, I wasn't perfect, but these messages prove I did the best I could and I take comfort from that. I'll always treasure the photos of us together and mementoes such as her precious engagement ring.
But it was words that brought her back to me. Her words.
She was my favourite person in the world. And thanks to these messages, I finally know for sure that we really did make the most of every sec

DM.later('bundle', function()
DM.has('external-source-links', 'externalLinkTracker');
);

If you adored this article and also you would like to collect more info pertaining to [https://xn--80aaalddcfhwl3bhizg.xn--p1ai/ стрейч пленка черная купить] nicely visit our web page.

KristaBritton:

DM.later('bundle', function()
DM.has('external-source-links', 'externalLinkTracker');
);

If you adored this post and you would such as to receive more information concerning [https://xn--80aaalddcfhwl3bhizg.xn--p1ai/ производители стрейч пленки в россии] kindly see our own site.
Jimmy Butler scored a career-playoff-high 45 points, including seven over a critical stretch in the fourth quarter, and the Miami Heat beat the visiting Atlanta Hawks 115-105 on Tuesday to take a 2-0 lead in an Eastern Conference first-round series.

Top-seeded Miami built a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter before eighth-seeded Atlanta battled back on the strength of Bogdan Bogdanovic's playoff career-best 29 points, 19 of which he scored in the final period.

Bogdanovic connected on a 3-pointer with 3:15 remaining that pulled the Hawks to within 104-101.

Then Butler took over.

Butler dribbled through the Atlanta defense on the ensuing possession to throw down a dunk.

Following a Bogdanovic missed 3-point attempt, Butler scored falling away from beyond the arc.

He completed the decisive, 7-0 run attacking the rim for a layup that pushed the Miami lead to 10 points with 1:20 left.

The Hawks were much more competitive in Tuesday's Game 2 than in Sunday 115-91 defeat on Sunday, thanks in part to an improved scoring effort from Trae Young.

The star guard scored just eight points in Game 1, a mark he passed by the end of the first quarter on Tuesday.

Young went into halftime with 18 points, but Miami held him to just seven in the second half.

With Young shooting 2 of 10 from 3-point range overall, the Hawks sputtered to 12 of 40 (30 percent) from deep as a team. Bogdanovic finished 5 of 10 beyond the arc, and Kevin Huerter scored all nine of his points on 3-of-7 shooting from long range.

De'Andre Hunter scored 16 points for Atlanta, and John Collins recorded a 13 points and 10 rebounds while starting in place of injured Clint Capela (knee).

Tyler Herro contributed 15 points off the bench for Miami, and fellow reserve Gabe Vincent added 11.

Max Strus went for 14 points and dished four assists, second on the Heat only to Butler's five.

--Field Level Media

In case you cherished this article and you wish to acquire more information concerning [https://xn----itbmnjagdikg0d.xn--p1ai/ купить стрейч пленку в санкт петербурге] kindly check out our web-site.

Thank God I scored."

To check out more info on [https://xn--80aaalddcfhwl3bhizg.xn--p1ai/ стрейч пленка вторичка] have a look at the site.

With no shortage of elves, quips, family and friendships, Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring premiered on the 19th December 2001 -- and almost every year since, I have watched it at Christmas.
It is the ultimate, best Christmas film and I will keep up this tradition until the day I die. And I'm here to declare that you should too.

Now, to be clear, I'm not some Christmas movie novice who would allow LOTR to win by default. I've seen them all: Miracle on 34th Street, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, The Holiday (which admittedly is second best), Love Actually, It's A Wonderful Life, Home Alone - and yes, even Die Hard. The list goes on and on… and on and on and on. There are a ridiculous amount of Christmas movies, actually.

I've also made my way through the Hallmark catalogue of assorted Christmas flicks where the high-strung business woman falls in love with a ragamuffin from her hometown who bakes cookies in a barn and teaches her the true meaning of Christmas. Unshockingly, these do not factor highly in my consideration, but I digress.

No matter how many times I see tinsel and hear sleigh bells in the opening credits of a Christmas film, nothing compares to Lord of the Rings.

The best Christmas movie is Lord of the Rings because the best anything movie is Lord of the Rings
— Nick Beckwith (@nikobeckwith)

window.CnetFunctions.logWithLabel('%c One Trust ', "Service loaded: script_twitterwidget with class optanon-category-5");

Now, I have faced scrutiny over this take in the past, particularly over whether or not Lord of the Rings even COUNTS as a Christmas film. Here are my top three reasons it absolutely does.
It features Christmas Day
What, you thought that just because we're in Middle Earth and our earthly equivalent of Santa Claus romps around in grey robes, sending off fireworks and encouraging bad hobbit behavior, that Christmas Day wasn't technically in Lord of the Rings? Think again.

While not explicitly mentioned in the films, the source material confirms that it was Christmas Day, December 25th, when the Fellowship first departed from Rivendell on their journey to destroy the ring. Let me say this one more time: The Fellowship -- including grey firework Santa and eight dashing, prancing companions -- left a city of elves (who were hard at work building a fancy new toy sword for Aragorn) to traverse their world and bring peace to Middle Earth, ON CHRISTMAS DAY.

It's also worth noting that J.R.R Tolkien was also a devout Christian, so the choice of that particular date would not have gone unnoticed by him. It was a CHOICE. A CHRISTMAS choice.
You can (almost) apply Christmas carols to major events in the film
If you want to sit there and tell me that Baby It's Cold Outside doesn't work for the Fellowship shivering their souls out at the door to Moria, just try. JUST. TRY.

Silent Night? The moments juuuust before Pippin knocks a great honkin' skeleton down a hole. Follow that up with the Little Drummer Boy as whichever goblin started the drums of war, and that's practically a whole Christmas carol setlist.

At a stretch, We Three Kings could definitely vibe with the rings of power given to the elves and held by Elrond, Galadriel and Gandalf: "Three were given to the Elves; immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings."

And look, I know this one's a huge leap but Little Donkey could potentially be applied to Samwise's loyal pony Bill, who kept trudging the whole way up a snow-covered mountain before he was forced to turn back at the mines. In this household, we love and respect Bill.
Christmas is a time for family and fellowship
Jokes aside, Christmas at its core is literally a time for fellowship. It's a time where we all come together, regardless of what's going on in our lives - even if that means associating with extended family you'd prefer to keep at arm's length, like the Sackville-Bagginses, to whom you'd wish to say "No, thank you! We don't want any more visitors, well-wishers or distant relations!".

Just as the nine members of the Fellowship come together to share in adventures, have each other's backs and embrace the spirit of loyalty and friendship, so too should you. And how better to convince the more raucous members of your family to sit down on the couch together than to make the Christmas movie something everyone can enjoy.

As Gandalf says, "All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you."My advice? Give Die Hard a rest this year and spend that time watching the one true Christmas movie: Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

For those who have any inquiries with regards to exactly where as well as how to utilize [https://xn----itbmnjagdikg0d.xn--p1ai/ строительная стрейч пленка], you can call us on the webpage.

This event was once North America's largest gaming convention, even surpassing its Seattle-based sister show . While the shows had been on hiatus since the pandemic lockdowns of 2020, returned to Boston with a large amount of visitors — and there were plenty of on display as well.
At the show this year, I got to play several games that will be ones to watch in 2022 and for early 2023. In the list below you'll find a quick rundown of games that stood out at PAX East 2022, including the next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, the peculiar platforming game Tinykin, the Souls-like parody The Last Hero of Nostalgaia, and the social satire adventure game The Last Worker.

These were the 13 games that showed great promise across the days of PAX East 2022.
Evil West
Developer: Flying Wild Hog | Release Date: TBD 2022
You'll be facing vampires and demons in this supernatural-infused Wild West shooter.

Flying Wild Hog/Focus Interactive Games

Developer Flying Wild Hog honed its craft for fast-paced action gameplay with the Shadow Warrior reboot trilogy, and now it's taking that know-how to the Wild West with the action-horror game Evil West.

With the game set in a supernatural Wild West, you play as a vampire-hunting bounty hunter who uses classic cowboy weaponry and advanced gadgets to slay demons of the night. Evil West is a third-person shooter that deftly blends shooting gameplay and melee combat, which opens up slick moments where you can disarm enemies and launch demons into the air with ease.

This game came out of nowhere for me, and I like its pulp-style horror take on the Wild West. I'm very interested in seeing more of it later this year.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's RevengeDeveloper: Tribute Games | Release Date: TBD 2022
The entire Turtle squad, along with some help from April and Splinter, will work together to face off against the Foot Clan and other mutant bad guys.

Tribute Games/DotEmu Games

There have been many games based on the popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series over the last three decades, but none has matched the impact of arcade beat-'em-ups. With the upcoming TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, we're getting a spiritual successor to the classic beat-'em-up games directly inspired by the 16-bit era.

Developed by Tribute Games and DotEmu, this throwback game looks stunning, and the gameplay offers that satisfying thrill of barreling through Foot Clan ninjas -- something the classic games did so well. However, it also introduces some slick modern touches to the gameplay, giving you and your teammates some added skills and defense to help fight off Shredder's minions. This was a real blast to play, and it proves just how great TMNT games can be.
DolmenDeveloper: Massive Work Studio | Release Date: May 20, 2022
As is the tradition with Souls-style games, you'll likely be running away from many battles.

Massive Work Studio/Prime Matter

It wouldn't be a stretch to say that FromSoftware's Elden Ring -- like other Souls games -- has made a massive impact on the gaming industry. So much so that other devs are taking a crack at making their own Souls-inspired games. One game coming from Brazilian developer Massive Work Studio and published by Prime Matter is Dolmen, a sci-fi take on the genre.

In the far future, you play as a mercenary who travels to a planet hosting crystals that spawn multiple timelines. The gameplay will feel familiar to players of FromSoftware's games, but combat is spiced up by the addition of firearms and energy powers. This might be one to watch out for if you're itching for a Souls-like with a change of setting.
The Last OricruDeveloper: GoldKnights | Release Date: TBD 2022
Split-screen co-op is available for those who want to bring a friend with them on their journey through this hardcore sci-fi/fantasy RPG.

GoldKnights/Prime Matter

One particular frustration with Souls games: They tend to have a fairly complex approach to co-op multiplayer. There's usually a story behind it, but simply put, adding another player to the game isn't easy. That's one thing The Last Oricru, another sci-fi Souls-like, is looking to remedy -- with couch co-op.

On an alien world, you must decide which faction you'll side with during an increasingly hostile war. But you won't have to take on the fight alone. One skill the key protagonist has is summoning a hologram copy, which another player can control. Split-screen co-op is possible along with online play, which means you and a buddy can pair up and endure steep challenges and harsh defeats together.
TinykinDeveloper: Splashteam | Release Date: TBD 2022
You'll get to interact with many characters hiding out in the world of Tinykin.

Splashteam/Tiny Build

One game that surprised me at PAX East was Tinykin, a peculiar but visually impressive puzzle-platformer. Mixing 2D visuals with 3D environments, this game sports a style that looks right out of an animated film such as Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Playing as a shrunken-down explorer, you team up with miniature critters to overcome platforming challenges and explore the world within a human's house. The story and gameplay seems to borrow heavily from Pikmin, but the game does present clever and surprisingly heartwarming twists on that premise. It looks like it'll be fun for all ages, so keep it on your radar.
The Last Hero of NostalgaiaDeveloper: Over The Moon Games | Release Date: TBD 2022
This lowly, stick-figure protagonist will face off against hordes of video game enemies in a journey to become the great hero of the land.

Over The Moon Games/Coatsink

Yes, it's another Souls-like game, but it's my favorite from PAX East 2022.

The Last Hero of Nostalgaia is set within the world of a high-fantasy Souls-esque game, in which you play as a hilariously undefined protagonist that looks like a walking stick figure. With no class or backstory, you make your own tale within a game that has a self-aware narrator who is actively trying to stop your adventure. The Last Hero of Nostalgaia is a parody game, and its fun combat is boosted by solid writing that pokes fun at the cliches and formulas of fantasy games. Playing this was a riot, and I'm keen on seeing where this oddball will go when it's released later this year.
SignalisDeveloper: Rose-Engine | Release Date: Fall 2022
Lurking in the halls of the ruined ship in Signalis are fierce enemies, and sometimes it's better to save your resources and make a run for it.

Rose-Engine / Humble Games

One of the most eerily atmospheric and unnerving games I got to play this year at PAX East was Signalis. Coming from developer Rose-Engine, this game is a throwback that pays homage to classic survival horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. As the main protagonist awakens from her cryosleep, she'll have to uncover what occurred on the ship and the planet it crash-landed on, all the while avoiding grotesque creatures that have taken over her former crewmates.

This game's impeccable atmosphere shows shades of 1979's Alien and the classic anime film Akira, and I think that's such a great mix for a horror game. Signalis features a retro-futuristic style that showcases an analog, industrial-style vision of the distant future. That gives it a unique aesthetic that feels so unorthodox for its genre, yet it works well in motion. Even when I was getting spooked by creatures lurking in the shadows, I couldn't help but admire the game's rich design and visuals. It's certainly a game that's right up my alley, and with its fall release it could end up a great, moody game pick for play during the Halloween season.
MoonscarsDeveloper: Black Mermaid's | TBD 2022
The world of Moonscars has a tragic beauty, showcasing a world that was once a lush setting but is now in deep ruin.

Black Mermaid/Humble Games

Black Mermaid's Moonscars is a gorgeously grim 2D action game that really impressed me.

Set within a slowly crumbling fantasy world, it has you playing as a resurrected clay warrior that's tasked with seeking out an elusive sculptor who can reveal what has happened to the world -- and the meaning of the protagonist's existence. As you explore more of the world, you'll unlock new powers. However, doing so will also require leaving a piece of yourself behind, which will then take on a life of its own and seek retribution further down the line.

The setting and plot take place in a bleak world, but I couldn't help but admire the richly detailed 2D animation at work in Moonscars. The visuals are just so stunning in motion, and it made exploring and engaging in combat such a delight. The action gameplay can be quite challenging, and as another Souls-style game, each death offers a lesson, and learning from your defeats can give way to satisfying moments of triumph. If you're into a 2D action game that revels in its atmosphere, then Moonscars is definitely one to watch.
No Place for BraveryDeveloper: Glitch Factory | Release Date: Fall 2022
No Place for Bravery's features some fantastic 2D art that not only shows off the intense combat, but also the sheer scope of the world.

Glitch Factory/Ysbrd Games

The 2D action-adventure game No Place for Bravery has been in the works for some time, and it's finally on its way to release later this year. What's kept the game on fans' radars is its lush and colorful fantasy world to explore, but also its focus on combat and tactics gives it a bit of a different flavor compared to other 2D action games.

Taking inspiration from Norse mythology and the classic manga of Lone Wolf and Cub, the story focuses on a veteran warrior named Thorn who's haunted by his daughter's disappearance. After discovering clues about where she might be, Thorn embarks on a journey to rescue her, but he'll also have to keep his disabled son safe along the way.

My time playing the game at PAX really clued me in on the artistic and gameplay design craft at work in No Place for Bravery, which blends the sense of exploration of classic Legend of Zelda with the challenge and brutality of combat. This is an awesome combination in my book, and it's got me excited to see more of the game later this year.
WrestleQuestDeveloper: Mega Cat Studios | Release Date: TBD
Exploring the world of WrestleQuest feels like diving into the imagination of a kid who dreams of what the world would be like if wrestlers ran it.

Mega Cat Studios / Skybound Games

There's a noticeable overlap in my generation with people who are fans of pro wrestling and those who grew up playing classic Super Nintendo RPGs and actions games. The team at Mega Cat Studios saw potential in that and has married those two interests into a single video game called WrestleQuest, which brings the history and mythology of modern pro wrestling into the realm of a 16-bit-style role-playing game.

There's an awful lot to unpack with WrestleQuest, which takes place in a fantasy world inhabited by wrestling action figures that worship icons like Macho Man Randy Savage, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, and Diamond Dallas Page. But actually diving in to unpack this bizarre yet so satisfyingly exuberant tribute to the joy of classic pro wrestling was really enjoyable.

I played the game's opening act at PAX East, which saw our up-and-coming wrestler who seeks to be the best in world wrestling entertainment. His quest begins with learning the basics of turn-based wrestling combat, which pays a wonderful homage to games like Super Mario RPG and Earthbound. From there, he explores a face-paint shop being looted by bandits who have taken wrestling fandom too and have become a nuisance.

WrestleQuest, while firmly rooted in a retro-style RPG from the SNES era, is still very much about wrestling -- and I really like that aspect of it. There are so many loving homages and other deep cuts to classic pro wrestling that was so satisfying to see play out. It looks like a fun time, and I cannot wait to see more of it.
Dome KeeperDeveloper: Bippinbits | Release Date: Late 2022
Mining in Doom Keeper can be soothing, but things can get stressful when having to defend your base from attack.

Bippinbits / Raw Fury

Dome Keeper is a game about multitasking. As the title suggests, your primary goal is to keep the dome secure. However, in order to do that, you'll need to outfit your infrastructure and defenses with material found from mining in the depths below. As you drill into the ground and explore the caverns below, uncovering resources and lost alien artifacts, there will come a time when you'll need to return to the surface to defend your dome from encroaching hostile lifeforms.

It's a fairly simple premise, but trust me when I say that things can get really tough in Dome Keeper. It blends the gameplay of tower defense with exploring a Metroid-style game. These are two gameplay styles so opposed to one another, but they come together in a fun and engaging way that really pushed me to keep going deeper into the world to keep my base safe. It can be stressful as things ramp up, but I always felt satisfied with managing to survive another round. Dome Keeper works as a great pick and up play action base builder, and with plans for more worlds to explore after its release later this year, this roguelike mining game has got potential to be a solid bit-sized action game.
SuperfuseDeveloper: Stitch Heads Entertainment | Release Date: TBD 2022
There are plenty of weapons and skills to take advantage of to clear out enemies in Superfuse.

Stitch Heads Entertainment / Raw Fury

The Diablo series is one of the most influential and often-imitated action RPGs. Yet most games trying to replicate the Diablo-style gameplay loop of hacking, slashing, and collecting loot tend to stick with the dark-fantasy aesthetic. One game coming out soon that takes things in a different direction is Superfuse, which brings that familiar isometric action-RPG combat to a sci-fi world with an over-the-top comic-book-style aesthetic.

The vibe and atmosphere of Superfuse, when compared to Diablo, feels very much like a high-octane and pulpy space adventure -- and that's its biggest strength. Playing as mercenaries for hire, you'll band together with other explorers to take on missions and amass more power to overthrow the galactic influence of humanity's top 1%, who have infused themselves with superpowers to control the galaxy. You pick from a group of mercenaries, all of whom are very diverse in their backgrounds and have their powers and weapons to use.

Easily my favorite part of playing Superfuse was how you could boost each hero's power. You can place modifiers onto some normal skills, like a lightning ax that you toss at enemies. And when I mean modifiers, I emphasize the plural. You can stack abilities onto abilities, which can radically transform basic attacks like the lightning ax into gnarly special skills that can clear rooms instantly. It was so satisfying to see my experimentation with skills pay off in such a big way, and I even impressed some of the devs on hand with my ideas.

That's something that has me interested in Superfuse, which will be released in early access later this year on PC. I've got a soft spot for Diablo-style games. This game takes that familiar formula in a fun and very satisfying direction, and I want to see where it'll lead.
The Last WorkerDeveloper: Oiffy / Wolf & Wood Interactive | Release Date: Late 2022
The Last Worker brings the storytelling style of Portal into a dense Amazon-esque warehouse that's run almost entirely by machines.

Oiffy, Wolf & Wood Interactive / Wired Productions

Social satire is still a realm that games don't often touch upon. The Last Worker, a new narrative-driven adventure game, is seeking to rectify that with its socially conscious plot about being a worker trapped in an automated warehouse distribution facility.

That previous line might have you think of recent news about Amazon's growing influence, and the conditions workers have to endure. The Last Worker certainly leans into that for its satirical and humorous take on the modern world of capitalism. Playing as the last human worker in the Jüngle corporation distribution center, you'll need to escape as the facility has gone amuck. While learning more about Jüngle's motives, the protagonist will interact with members of a growing activist group with plans to expose the company's corruption.

Thankfully, playing The Last Worker doesn't feel like a tough and tedious job. It's a first-person adventure game, and you're very immersed in the world, sneaking through air ducts to bypass security and solving puzzles to slip further into the facility. I was very impressed with the approach to getting you into the perspective of a character who's become lost and seemingly left behind inside an embodied of a massive corporation's greed and lust for "progress." The sharp and socially relevant writing also buoyed The Last Worker's atmosphere, which film director and writer Jörg Tittel wrote.

I spoke with him briefly at PAX East, and he said that "we have a responsibility as artists to speak about the world," and that's a sentiment that's prevalent from the short demo of the game I played.

It's an intriguing game, and I admire it for sticking to its effort to bring bits of the real into this oddball satire -- which even has its own pretentious, pseudo-intellectual tech billionaire who just won't go away. The game will be available on most platforms later this year, but the developers have also made the game for VR, which will be released for the Meta Quest 2. According to Tittel, the VR mode enhances the sense of immersion, which will make exploring this massive facility feel all the eerier and all the more bizarre.

In the event you cherished this informative article as well as you would like to be given more details relating to [https://xn----itbmnjagdikg0d.xn--p1ai/ стрейч пленка санкт петербург] generously go to the web site.
There have been plenty of boos in Salt Lake City when the Utah Jazz have faced the Dallas Mavericks in the playoffs over the years, including the time when Dirk Nowitzki referred to the "the bad city of Utah."

Jazz fans were booing again Thursday night in Game 3 of this improbable first-round series, but this time the boos were aimed at their own team, which fell behind the Mavericks 2-1 after a surprising 126-118 Dallas win at Vivint Arena.

Falling behind by 17 points at home and then being outplayed down the stretch against a team missing its superstar didn't sit well with the home crowd.

Donovan Mitchell, whose team hopes to tie the series back up Saturday afternoon in Game 4, didn't seem offended by the boo birds coming out in his arena.

"It's part of the game," Mitchell said.

"And we weren't playing well."

That's been the case most of this series despite the fact that the Mavs' leading scorer, Luka Doncic, has yet to play because of a strained left calf.

Mitchell finished with 32 points, but only scored four in the first half when Dallas jumped out to its biggest lead Thursday.
And the Jazz haven't been able to figure out how to defend this postseason's unexpected star, Jalen Brunson, or the Mavericks beyond the arc.

A younger Mitchell might have booed himself if he'd been a fan of this Jazz team, which has been underwhelming the past two postseasons since racking up the best regular-season record in the 2020-21 season.

"I booed the hell out of the TV when I was a fan," Mitchell said.

"It's not personal. There's an expectation around us, it's no secret about that -- everybody expects us to take care of business, and we didn't in the first half. So we got booed."

It's still questionable whether Doncic will be healed enough to play Saturday, nearly two weeks after injuring his leg against the Spurs.
Dallas coach Jason Kidd said his young playmaker hasn't suffered any setbacks and remains optimistic.

"He did great in the film session," Kidd joked when asked for an update on Doncic's status. "He participated. He's in good spirits."

The Mavericks will see how Doncic responds to Friday's practice, in which he participated in 5-on-5 work, before making a decision on his availability.

With Brunson, Maxi Kleber and other Mavericks having stepped up so well in this series so far, Kidd pointed out that Doncic's health will be the determining factor on his return.

Brunson has been a revelation for the Mavericks in this series, having scored 96 points and leading Dallas two consecutive wins in Games 2 and 3 after a Game 1 defeat at home.

"We're all on the same page," Brunson said.

"We're all clicking. We're all talking and communicating."

Kidd is trying to keep his team grounded, though. This is the best of seven, not a first-to-two-wins series.

"I just told the guys we haven't done anything," Kidd said. "They won at our place and now we won here. We need to put this game behind us and figure out what we need to do better."

Though they ultimately lost, the Jazz like the turnaround the team made in the second half of Game 3, when they gradually trimmed a 17-point deficit down to one in the fourth quarter.

Part of that comeback came when Utah had its best defender, Rudy Gobert, on the bench and went small ball.

"I like what we did in the second half," Gobert said. "I like how we came out defensively and the offense takes care of itself when we play with that intensity defensively.
